How’s 2012 so far?

On February 19, 2012, in Main, by matt

It’s been loads of fun here at Group R1100s!  We’ve gained a few new members in the last few months and we’ve been chatting a bit while we work on our bikes for the upcoming riding season.

I wanted to take a moment to mention that as of now, the plans of this forum being discontinued in May of this year still stand, although things have been improving lately.  We’d like to see a few more registrations, but as is the same for any forum screaming for participation.  While you might visit sometimes or even frequently and are still considering on registering and joining in on our discussions, take a moment to consider this.

Unlike most forums that are created, we are not here to make money on anything, and never will be.  As was mentioned in the initial welcome post created almost two years ago, there will never be advertisements directly related to this forum, or anything that will attempt to collect money from its users.  If this forum were to ever get to the point where additional income would be required to maintain its existence, it would either live off of donations or be shut down completely before advertising would be considered.  It’s just how we roll.  Group R1100s was created only to help connect, create and maintain a centralized focus group for the R1100s motorcycle.  That’s it.  Nothing more.

So with that, have a safe riding season.  See if you can’t get some of your riding partners to stop by, register, and participate in the forums.  It’s not going to take a whole lot to move the board to “safe” status.  We now have a fully accessible classifieds area as well.

Hopefully we’ll be able to keep moving on down the line.

Thanks for stopping by!

Moving along

On August 9, 2011, in Main, by matt

Well, we’re still here.  The activity this year has been disappointing, but I still have hope for the future.  It’s very difficult to spend the time, effort, and money on a project that seems to not get utilized.  Perhaps my calculations in the usefulness and interest in a forum for us was a little over estimated.

We’ve still got some excellent ideas moving forward, but we just need more users and regular participants to join in before we can put them into place.  So, ride safe and tell all of your friends to join us here at GroupR1100s!

Bike of the Month

On April 27, 2011, in Main, by matt

Once we reach 25 regular contributors, we’d like to start a ‘Bike of the Month’ rally, where your bike could be featured with its own page, and history written by you!  (Don’t worry – for those of you who don’t like writing or may not know exactly what to say, a bike of the month ‘template’ will be provided – all that you’ll have to do is fill in the blanks).  In the beginning, bikes will be chosen based on a random drawing system.  There may also be prizes involved – stay tuned.

Forum Contest

On April 27, 2011, in Main, by matt

That’s right – a contest!

You know that you love forums – the interaction with others, sharing your experiences, and showing off your photos.  Well, we’ve just developed a plan that may enhance all of that – just a little.

These days, forums are not the easiest information repositories to build.  Forums are a dime a dozen, and there is basically a forum discussion interface for just about any subject you could think of.  So, how can we get our users to not only register, but to also participate?  Money.

Starting sometime soon (has not been determined), we will be initiating a contest involving post count.  A yet undetermined post count will earn you CASH.  That’s right – MONEY.  The exact rules and cash prize have yet to be determined.  There are a few known stipulations that must be met however.

- There must be at least 20 competitors.  That means that you may have to lead some of your forum friends over this way to compete.  You must be registered for the contest to compete (please see the link at the bottom of this post for the official registration thread) and if the number of active competitors ever drops below 20, the contest will be forfeit.  ‘Active’ means posting at least once a day during the contest period.  So, it may not be a bad idea to ensure more than 20 competitors in case someone has to miss a day.  This helps prevent bogus registrations for the purpose of “pushing” the contest along.  (We will be able to tell if users are creating multiple accounts – so don’t try it.)

- The contest will begin on a yet undetermined date and end at a yet undetermined date, but will go for 30 days.  Whoever posts the most meaningful posts by the deadline will win the prize.

- Posts must contain useful information or at least be a complete response/comment.  Posts like, “Yeah!” or, “I agree.” will not count.  Posts in the classifieds will not count.

- You must have a PayPal account.

- You must be able to accept US currency as payment.

There will be much other information to follow with this development, and we’d like your feedback.  Visit the forums, register an account (or login if you already have one), and give us other ideas that you might have.

The contest has been cancelled due to lack of interest.  I was quite surprised to find that so few are willing to receive money for virtually nothing.  I suppose starting forum number 1,650,876 based on gaming would draw some attention?  Have you seen the number of forums out there based on video games, and the users?  Wow.  I need a new hobby.

We’ve got TONS of visitors and browsers, but no one is registering.

Another Year

On April 27, 2011, in Main, by matt

Welcome to the new website!

A year has passed since the beginning stages of Group R1100s, and some changes have obviously taken place.  This new front end will allow us to add more ‘static’ information about the R1100s, and act as sort of a content management system.  The forums are still here and active, and all user accounts are still there.  Simply click on the link above labeled ‘Forums’ and you will be taken to the forum site.

The ultimate goal is to create a community, built by forum interaction that will ultimately lead to group events, meets, and other social ‘real world’ interactions for all owners of the BMW R1100s.  As mentioned before, we are still in the beginning stages of development, having only been exposed on the web for a year.

Remember – the value of this website is completely dependent on the participation of its members.  If you ever have any questions or comments, please never hesitate to contact us immediately.  Thanks for visiting, and enjoy your stay!
